Abstract:

Moyamoya disease(MMD)is one of the leading causes for stroke of children and young adults, and the clinical manifestations of MMD mainly include two types: cerebral ischemia and cerebral hemorrhage. The clinical characteristics and the epidemic characteristics of MMD including incidence and prevalence vary dramatically among different regions and races. It most frequently occurs in East Asian populations. With the advance and evolution of invasive radiological techniques such as magnetic resonance angiography, the occurrence of MMD tends to increase across the whole world. Learning about the epidemiology of MMD will improve the performance in the diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, this article aims to review the progress in the epidemiology of MMD.
