Abstract:

Malignant cerebral edema is a status with severe space-occupying effect after massive cerebral infarction, which leads to progressive deterioration of neurological function and may progress to cerebral hernia or even the death. Malignant cerebral edema is the leading cause of poor prognosis and even deaths of patients with strokes. Therefore, early prediction and timely intervention of malignant cerebral edema are clinically significant. At present, it has become the focus and hotspot of research to find the indicators that can predict the occurrence of malignant cerebral edema. This article reviews the progress of recent studies of malignant cerebral edema from the aspects of imaging indicators, clinical scores, and biochemical markers in order to provide a theoretical basis for reducing the occurrence of malignant cerebral edema.

Key words: Malignant cerebral edema, Massive cerebral infarction, Predictive factors
