Research status of the radiographic features of patients with cryptogenic cerebral infarction related to patent foramen ovale

Abstract:

Cryptogenic cerebral infarction is a type of ischemic stroke without clear etiology. Patent foramen ovale may cause ischemic stroke by paradoxical embolism. Clinical researches have showed that patent foramen ovale has closely related with cerebral infarction. At present, the radiographic features of cryptogenic cerebral infarction related to patent foramen ovale is in dispute. This article reviews the related researches of the infarction characteristics in recent years. We have found that in the current studies, patent foramen ovale related cerebral infarctions tend to occur in the cortex or subcortex and posterior circulation is mainly involved.
