Abstract:

Gait is an important indicator of multisystemic conditions in the geriatric population and has received increasing attention recently. Gait abnormalities are common among elderly adults in the community, which not only increase the risk of falls, and aggravates the loss of living ability, but are also strongly associated with increased risk of all-cause mortality in the long term, most notably increased risk of cardiovascular mortality. The relationship between abnormal gait and long-term dementia risk is mainly manifested in dementias except Alzheimer's. This article provides a literature review on the relationship between gait abnormalities and adverse events in the older people, to emphasize the importance of gait parameters in indicating poor prognosis. In the future study, it is of great significance to establish a unified standard for the acquisition and measurement of gait parameters for the in-depth study of gait disorders.
