Abstract:

Objective

To explore the mediating role of coping styles in the relationship between self-efficacy and social participation in stroke patients.

Methods

Ninety-six stroke patients diagnosed and treated in Xuzhou Municipal State Hospital affiliated to Xuzhou Medical University from March 2022 to May 2023 were included. Simple response method questionnaire, General self-efficacy scale, and Independent participation questionnaire were utilized to assess the coping style, self-efficacy, and social participation. Pearson correlation analysis was used to examine the relationships among coping style, self-efficacy, and social participation in stroke patients. Bootstrap method was also used to test the mediating role of coping style between self-efficacy and social participation.

Results

The mean coping style score of stroke patients was (45.53 ±4.54), the self-efficacy score was (25.34±6.47), and the social participation score was (50.89±12.25). The correlation analysis results showed that there was a significant correlation between coping styles, self-efficacy, and social participation in stroke patients (r=0.604, 0.573; P<0.05); Coping style played a partial mediating role in the relationship between self-efficacy and social participation of stroke patients, with a mediating effect of 0.482.

Conclusion

The coping style of stroke patients significantly mediates the relationship between self-efficacy and social participation, and there is a significant correlation among these three factors, which is clinically relevant.
